Electric fencing has been used for decades to keep animals in an area or out of a certain location. Electric fences are most often used with livestock, but they can also be used on farms and homes. The fence will send an electric pulse through the wire that runs along the ground when it comes into contact with anything that is not supposed to cross the barrier. A deer might think that they can just go right across because there is no physical obstruction, but they will soon find themselves being shocked by the voltage running through their body if they try this!

What types of pasture fencing are there?

Pasture fences have been around since animals were kept for farming. In earlier times, farmers had to put up wooden pasture fences in tedious and time-consuming work, so that the herds could graze in a controlled environment. Today, erecting a pasture fence is easier than ever. This is because modern pasture fencing equipment combines the advantages of an electric fence, with all its benefits, and the proven pasture fence.

A modern electric fence consists of:

  • The pasture fence device including a mains adapter and battery.
  • A ground connection cable
  • About fence connection cable

The heart of an electric fence is, of course, the electric fence unit, which energizes the entire fence system and thus generates the necessary current. For the safety of animals as well as humans, the voltage is of course protected by means of a ground connection cable, so that even in the case of permanent contact, a fatal electric shock cannot occur. If contact occurs, the current flows from the fence connection cable into the body and is discharged through the body into the ground. The effect of the electric shock generated in this way depends on the voltage value of the pasture fence and should be chosen appropriately depending on the type of animal. For animals with a denser coat would hardly feel an electric shock of up to 12 volts, which would cause the electric fence to lose its effect. Sensitive animals, on the other hand, would at least panic if hit with 110 volts, if not seriously injured.

Pasture fences with 110 volts

The classic electric fence for larger animals, such as cattle, is the fence with 110 volts. Similar in design to the smaller model, this variant, however, requires a 110-volt mains operation, which, especially in remote pastures, can often only be made possible by means of a generator. In use, therefore, often rather impractical, this variant, however, captivates in any case by its performance and usually very robust construction.

There are many options when it comes to fencing on your property. A fence is great for keeping deer out of your garden or away from where you keep livestock, but if an animal manages to get through the barrier it can cause a lot of damage. If you do not want to spend hours repairing fences every year then investing in an electric fencer that will shock any animals that try and pass-through may be worth considering.
